It is interesting perusing SKYPE reviews. I notice that all the positive ones are not objective, but rediculously glowing - you know, like the ones manufacturers write for themselves? I have more than one reason for feeling somewhat cynical towards these reviews which go overboard on the "awesome wonderful unbeatable blah blah" BS.
I have used SKYPE from numerous computers in numerous locations worldwide, and my experience is that if 40% of your calls are of acceptable quality, you are doing well! (You WILL of course be billed for 100% of them..
The software is messy and clunky, call reliability is very poor, and on top of this, the software does not log you out if you close it. So if you use SKYPE from internet cafes, and you should close it down thinking you are logged out, the next user will be able to use up your credit.
I informed the company of this in 2007 and they were absolutely indifferent to the situation. Bad? We havent finished yet .. now they have introduce AUTO-TOPUP, and if you don't choose to have it, they select it for you without telling you, so now the next user can not only use your credit but they can empty your bank account making calls all day and night. Neat Eh? I am one of a steadily increasing group of (currently) 29 people currently preparing court action against skype for losses resulting from their silently imposed auto-topup policy.
DO I need to go on? SKYPE - simply a bad corporation with a bad product.

I love skype, but I made the mistake of buying a skype handset through the skype web site. This is no longer skype. This is Digital River in Minnesota. The phone was shipped from Ingram Online in Tennessee. The phone, a Skype Belkin, did not work. I have spent the last 6 weeks trying to get a replacement: NO. Money back: so far NO. I have put a hold through my credit card. Very sad. Maybe skype should stick to software, leave marketing hardware to people who do that sort of stuff: obviously it is not Digital River and their team.

I like the free part, but. . . I gave them money, and used about 20% of my pool of money before they blocked my account with no notice or explanation. They have ignored 3 service requests in three weeks, but their automated email response says expect help in 24-48 hours. Service or a refund looks impossible. This is some of the worst customer service I have ever seen. One would think that when you offer a free service, paying customers might be of some value. Enjoy the free part, but send money at your own risk.

Skype is awesome. It's free, easy to use, and did I mention free? You get to call anyone, anywhere in the world for free. And if you don't want to be stuck at your computer when using Skype, you can get a fairly cheap Skype wi-fi phone and walk around your whole house, or other wi-fi hotspot area using Skype.

I use Skype as my second phone line and it works pretty well for that purpose. But, I still use my home phone as my main telephone service just because I couldn't get by just using a softphone app as my only means of communication. I am fairly bad when it comes to computers but I found Skype really easy to use and I was making Skype-to-Skype calls within minutes of installing it. Skype is free, so I can't really complain!

I love Skype and with their great rates for PC-to-phone calls I am starting to use them for all calls that I make. I also use SkypeIn to allow people to call me from their "real" phones on my "real" phone number. I believe services like Skype are the future of telecommunications, although it is early day, the future is bright.

You can't beat Skype. You can use it as a peer-to-peer voip and instant messaging (IM) service for FREE! You can also make really cheap calls to landlines and cell phones using SkypeOut. You just load your Skype account with prepaid credit and use it whenever you like. I mainly use Skype as a softphone, but I have toyed with the idea of installing it on my cell phone and using bluetooth to use my Skype cell phone as my new home phone around the house! Skype is free and voip headsets are really cheap so whynot sign-up and try them for yourself?
